My printer is only 7 months old and gets moderate use. I paid $89.99 for it and it now needs a new drum which costs $116.00. It consistently calls for paper, however paper is in the tray.
I would not recommend this product or buy a Brother again.

Has been a solid performer for me for 18 months. Seems to use toner at a reasonable rate - I buy the recycled ones from Office Depot without a problem. Printer works fine for me -printing things. My only complaint is every few months print jobs don't do through, and I have to turn the printer off and on again. Then it will print my jobs. There aren't any firmware updates from what tech support told me. Using it with Mac OS 10.4.11

Love this printer. Great for basic B&W prints. Good price for a laser printer! Also, good aftermarket toner to be found for this printer.
