We have been using this player for about three weeks now, replacing an expensive Samsung unit that died at about 18 months just like every other DVD player we have ever owned.
This is a solid player. No problems from us with all aspects of DVD playback via the HDMI port.
One of this player's more interesting features is that you can play movies via the front USB port. What was not clear from the copy in the listing is the particulars of that playback.
Playback via the USB port is playback of JPG files and various video files on a flash drive ("thumb drive" or whatever you might call it) via USB 1.1 (not USB 2.0). Also, playback of files on a hard drive (as I had hoped) is not supported. Codec support is pretty good (meaning that most stuff you download will probably play). Large JPEGs are a bad idea, since they take forever to load via USB 1.1.
Rating: - Great picture, bad audio & remote
I already own the 5960 so I upgraded to this one becuase the USB is high speed. I was impressed with the picture quality but audio quality was a downgrade. I was shocked at how muffled the audio was compared to the 5960.
The improved speed with the USB port was great, I was able to connect my external hard drive. Some .avi files I played had distorted audio and clipping. The remote is a slight improvement, it will only control TV's made by Philips though. This would be a great player if the audio wasn't bad.
Rating: - Great All Region DVD Player
Works Great! After using the settings outlined on other posts in order to make these Philip players All Region (Region 0) I was able to play both my American and Japanese DVDs, no problem. Picture is good, and the speed and response of the unit is much better than many of the Philip players. This is my 3rd Philip All Region player and it works well. My first older Philips DVD player was wonderful and then I upgraded and although the player did play all region of DVDs it was really slow to turn on, to get the tray out and when using the remote the response was terrible. This player is more like my first Philips and the response times are much faster. Very pleased.

I researched CVD players before purchasing this unit: good specs and reviews. Excellent performance with Samsung 24in 1080 Monitor/TV.
Good price, delivery and service. Thanks, Amazon
