Rating: - New to iPod (and Apple) -- not very impressed
I rarely go with the majority when it comes to acquiring the latest and greatest, but I thought the iPod might be something I really could enjoy. So far, so-so. One of the reasons I was looking for an MP3 player was so I could put all of my audiobooks on one device rather than burn a lot of CDs, but there were a lot of MP3 players I could've gotten for that purpose, and for a lot less money. The sound quality is very good but I've heard better. The CoverFlow is a neat idea, even if it's slow to start moving, but not all of the album covers for the music I have can be found (there's a lot of classical albums out there that apparently aren't as important as the latest pop or R&B). I discovered how to "create" them but it's just not the same as the real thing. Downloading takes forever, or so it seems, and I find myself falling asleep as I wait. Syncing with iTunes can be tricky if the correct boxes are not checked off. I started to panic when I thought that all of my tracks had vanished. I did break down and buy a movie but I think I damaged my eyesight by watching such a small screen! I could go on and on, but let me close by saying maybe I'm just not an iPod person. Perhaps I should've started smaller and purchased a Nano.

Quite good - but suffers from Apples xenophobia in that they will not let you sync with other computers other than the one that you initially sync with.
Needs to be solid state rather than the disk with moving parts that it has to avoid jumping when it is jarred.
Produces great music and there are many adapters for it.
Video can only play mpeg4 files which is quite a restriction but quality is good.
Rating: - Good, but lacking.
The iPod classic is the second iPod I've owned. The first was the 4th gen version and it had so many problems, I swore off iPod forever and switched to a Toshiba F20 Gigabeat.
However, due to the lack of accessories (Toshiba didn't even offer the parts that came with the unit like power cord/cradle), I reluctantly crawled back to Apple after my f20 was stolen.
The good thing about my 80 GB iPod are the storage space (which is massive) and the number of accessories that come with the phone. I have already loaded 50 GB of music and will fill it eventually, something that is not possible with 90% of the players in the market.
Another pro is that the user interface is easy to use.
There are many drawbacks since I bought it.
I must be the only one on the planet who hates the scroll wheel. I find it inaccurate and I never land on the choice that I want.
I find in-excusable that it doesn't come with an AC powercord. Call me old fasioned, but even my cheapie $50 MP3 player came with an AC powercord. My Gigabeat f20 even came with an cradle which I could plug into my stereo. For me to get a cradle and power input would cost another $80.
That is a RIPOFF.
I can't stand iTunes and I can't use Window explorer to transfer songs. I am trying to download 4 albums that is not importing to my music library as we speak.
I guess there may be a fix, but unfortunately, the iPOD DOESN'T come with a USER Manual. I have to download it online and if I didn't really have internet connection, I would be fried.
The sound quality is below par. My 3 year old Gigabeat sounds so much better. The sound output is also very weak. You would think that Apple would spend some money on their electronics.
If I had to choose all over again, I would have chosen my friends Micrsoft Zune, which sounds much better, or for even better sound (and if storage wasn't such an issue) the Sony Walkman 16 GB MP3 player.
I am no longer falling for Apple's cool advertising. However, I just wished the other manufacturers had as many accessories.....

Apple iPod classic 160 GB Black (6th Generation)
Remember CD's? Well, with some real effort you can load up bookshelves, tabletops and of course the car with your not-playing-this-one at the moment. This is my second IPOD. Believe it or not I ran out of usable memory on the IPOD video model. So, this time I went the distance with 160 gig "classic". It works great. It appears Apple has reworked the finger wheel for this model seems a better fit to my diminished eye-hand coordination . The visuals are also better and sharper. With all this memory I have taken to loading pictures which are better displayed than on photopaper.
My only complaint is Apples' continued use of those cheap earbuds. With my previous IPOD I purchased over-the-ear phones and remdied that problem.
If you are a complusive music type, I recommend this particular model without reservation
