Rating: - Disappointed with the iPOD - Not as intuitive as an MP3
I did a lot of research on what type of MP3 player to buy before I bought this one. Most of the reviews had good things to say about it. However, I have found it and Apple's help to be a disappointment. Copying music was not as easy as copying it to my daughter's SANYO MP3 player (all I had to do there was select and copy). With the iPOD everything is a long process. Then came copying pictures. Low and behold, it did not maintain the folders I had in my PC but merged all picture into one folder. When I called the Apple help I was told that it could not copy pictures into folders, which I found unbelievable (and as it turns out, incorrect); so I talked to other users who guided me (somewhat) but when iTunes asked if I wanted to replace the pictures in the iPOD with the pictures in my PC and I said yes, it copied them again, instead of replacing them (now I have TWO copies). It's been a PAIN. Definitely not as intuitive as I would have expected given all the hype. Then there is the matter of not coming with a manual, even if just to cover the essentials, except the online version, and when you try to search for something as simple as "erase pictures/photos, etc" it says that it can't find it. I was considering buying an Apple computer to replace my PC, but this has definitely put to rest that notion.
Rating: - If It Isn't A Mess, It'll Do Until The Real Mess Comes Along
I never had an iPod and bought this one because...
Because I wanted the big storage capacity and did not mind the larger size. And, unlike other reviewers, I have only had to reset it once. What is a "mess" about it is the hegemony Apple has tried to establish over music management.
"You'll like our stuff so much you won't mind our abuse," is Apple's attitude and, so far, they've done well with it.
As much as I might resent being told that there is only one acceptable way to manage my music collection, I love this thing. The indexing is fantastic. I can get at whatever I want to listen to quickly, it holds so much, and it's hard not to like.
Cover flow is bogus, for sure. So - who needs cover flow, anyway? If you can read, you can do whatever you need with your music on this thing.
NOTE: My rating pertains only to music and pictures. I have no idea how this does with video.
Rating: - Expensive but worth it
Bought this for my son to replace his aging 3rd gen ipod, and he loves it. He originally wanted the 5th gen to be compatible with his car stereo but he quickly found a firmware update that made this one compatible. I bought him the Griffin Reflective Case for iPod classic 6G (Silver) which he really loves. All his friends thought it was so cool. It is a cool case as it looks like a mirror until the ipod turns on, and then you can see the screen.
Rating: - LOVE IT!
This is my second I-Pod; My other one is a Classic 20 GB. This 80 GB is a great upgrade, it is thinner but is wider so it has a bigger screen and also has video, which I love. It sounds great, Looks Great and is the perfect fit for me, with 80 Gigs, I can have most of my music collection at my fingertips at any time.
