Rating: - No Scanner Support for OSX
Title about says it all. You can use the scanner without having a driver, which it turn isn't compatible with OSX.
The rest of the machine works OK, but alas, I can't scan. They shouldn't be able to say they are compatible with a specific OS unless they are 100%, or a disclaimer at least.
Rating: - Canon MF4150 is easier to use and better at printing than I expected.
This laser printer worked perfectly, immediately. It has so many functions that I was afraid I'd have trouble learning how to use it, but everything I did was accomplished on the first try. This experience demonstrates that the instructions are easy enough to understand and the machine is easy enough to use, that a person who has never before touched a laser printer can get it to work with few or zero fumbles or re-starts.
The most striking aspect is the sharpness of the printing. The letters and lines are fine and detailed beyond anything an inkjet printer can do on its best day. My favorite feature is the both-sided printing, but the reason I went looking for a laser printer is that the ink never dries up. I've wasted enough money on new ink cartridges that got clogged up in a week to pay for this printer!
I spent at least 12 hours shopping for laser printers on the internet (a lot of it at PC World magazine's product review web pages) and this machine stands head and shoulders above every other printer I saw, even enough to make me release my prejudice for a certain other brand. Now that I've had it for a month, nothing has broken or gotten less wonderful.
The price is wonderful, too!
It doesn't do color, but a comparable machine in color costs about $800. For that much money, I can drive to a print shop or e-mail my files to have them printed and snail-mailed back to me, for a very long time.
Rating: - Great for the money
Had a little trouble with thin paper feeding through straight but that's the only complaint. It's fast quiet and sooooo much cheaper to run than the ink jet it replaced. It isn't all that robust and probably wouldn't stand up to daily office use but for a home office it works well.
Rating: - Great machine with PC. Very limited functionality with Mac.
I bought this machine because I wanted a multifunction laser that worked with both PC and mac for my home office. With my XP machine, all of the bells and whistles work. I can scan directly to PDF in a couple of seconds. I love it.
For a Mac, however, the only functionality is laser printer. No scanner, no scan to pdf, no fax from computer. MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. Otherwise this thing would get 5 stars.
