I bought this product six weeks ago. There were so many great reviews, I thought for sure this was the right product for me! Not even close. First and foremost, when you print/copy any more than 50 pages, it produces condensation on and underneath the control panel to the point that it actually starts dripping into the machine. When you photocopy, it cuts off a quarter inch from the top of the page and a half inch from the bottom of the page. I tried reducing the page size, but that actually made it worse. There is a one-year warranty. Unfortunately, the options are to take it to be repaired, which means serious down-time; or to have a replacement sent, which by the way means a refurbished unit. If I wanted a refurbished unit, I would have bought a used one in the first place and saved some money; right?!?
UPDATE: I received a refurbished replacement unit. A couple months later, I started getting the "Toner not set" message. It scans everything crooked and then cancels scanning partway through. When printing and photocopying, it cuts off a quarter inch on all four sides. Canon says this is within the specifications. Well, obviously their specs stink. The toner is too expensive for only 2,000 pages. When it does print, parts of it are lighter than others. So if you want a crooked, incomplete, barely legible document that may or may not print and costs too much to produce, this product is for you!

I bought this printer to replace an aging HP inkjet all-in-one. Like many others I was tired of buying expensive ink cartridges. Since I was very pleased with my Canon Pixma ip6000D photo printer, I thought I'd try this multi-function laser device.
I work from home in a mixed environment... 2 Macs and 2 Windows boxes. Canon advertised compatibility with both (granted mac's can't scan). I share the printer across all the computers through my wireless network and a D-link DP-310G wireless print server.
Turns out that this printer won't work with any other print server but an Axis 1650. First, these print servers are nearly the cost of the printer. Second, they are wired only. So for wireless capability, I'd need to add an access point in addition to the custom print server. And (surprise, surprise) the Axis 1650 doesn't work with Macs.
On the Windows side, I could get it to print through my existing print server... occasionally. After sending the print job, I'd have to walk over to the printer and turn it off / on. Then it would print. Otherwise, no luck. I couldn't even get that far on the Macs. Apparently the culprit is the Canon Advanced Printing Technology (CAPT). It's a proprietary language which is why you need the custom server.
It's a shame because I really like the device. It's small, quiet, prints well and the on-device controls are straightforward.
Should have done my homework.
Rating: - Great product. Great Price
This laser prints quickly and the copies are perfect. Scanning is easy with an onscreen computer menu. I have not tried the duplex yet but I am very pleased. And the price was very reasonable. I'd recommend this one. I have a Dell at work and it has a long warm up time compared to the Canon.

This is an amazing little machine, and for the price it can't be beat! I really shopped around for the best deal, and this is it. Amazon has an amazing price. The sample cartridge that comes with the machine has lasted a long time. Fax functions are great, printing, duplexing, scanning to .pdf file - all great!
