The LaCie was recommended by my local newspaper as the best possible unit for portability and dependability for computer backup. It is a beautiful unit and I'm sure it is all they say it is. It arrived missing the cable I needed and the instructions are only for advanced computer users. I have no idea how to use it. The support is minimal and I now have a $200 paper weight. I could return it but that would be unfair to the retailer who sold it to me - they were great. If you are a computer genius this is for you! Amazon was more than competitive in price and got the drive here, shipping free as I recall, in less time than was promised, a plus. I have used LaCie drives in all kinds of interfaces for years, This is the best yet. It comes with firewire, native to us MAC users, powered through the bus, it booted up immediately and was instantly recogonized by the MAC. If previous experience with LaCie is any indication, this one should last a long time. So far this is the best and most convenient drive of the many external drives I own and use....

This Lacie drive is an ideal portable hard drive for the fast location storage because it has the 800 firewire port
and the aluminum outer shell that protect the body.
Although the shell is easily dinged, but you can buy the extra replacement shell from lacie.

I needed the speed of FireWire 800 in an inexpensive, compact, portable unit without an external power supply. This does the job fine and fast. The design is small enough, with an orange rubber protective shell that will hopefully never be put to the test. My only quibble is that I wish there was a higher capacity model. And a red or black shell.
