Rating: - So far so good
This is my first hard drive and have had no problems with it, it works nicely on the Mac OS X. I use it to backup personal files, pictures and music for a MacBook Pro through a Firewire800.
On the outside it has nice looks with its clean aluminum finish and orange rubber bumper. The rubber bumper is removable/replaceable and actually feels good in your hand. I read reviews it was pretty cheap but to me it looks good, it keeps the hard drive from slipping on hard surfaces.
Transfer speed is pretty good; actually, faster than using the USB in a Windows laptop. The only bad thing is that it will require two USBs on some computers, one for data transfer and one for power.
Rating: - Good Product
I bought this item to record video onto directly from a Sony HD camera. I have been very pleased with it's speed and ability to keep up with the high volume of data being pushed to it from the camera.

I purchased this unit as portable backup storage. I'm a professional photographer and videographer, and when traveling for work I religiously pack portable hard disks with the rest of my equipment in order to back up media that is downloaded to my laptop.
First of all, the triple interfaces on this unit are a huge boon: while working, the FW400 port on my MacBook Pro is generally being used by an external CompactFlash Reader, so being able to plug in the drive using the available FW800 port minimizes swapping. Being bus-powered over FireWire is even better.
While the bright-orange color wasn't my choice, in retrospect it's not so bad: I always know where it is at a glance. The external chassis doesn't feel as durable as I might like (especially for something that claims to be ruggedized) but I imagine that the soft bumpers would have some value if dropped. I think the body is a little larger than it needs to be, considering how small the drive inside really is, and a smaller unit would certainly be welcome in my pack.
Performance seems solid. I'm not moving enormous amounts of data at once, so I can't compare effectively to other drives, but it's subjectively felt on-par with other external drives I own and attach via FW800.
In short, definitely recommended, especially for photographers and others who run the risk of abusing their gear on the go.
Rating: - Great backup device
I have a MacBook Pro and need an external hard drive for a weekly backup. I tried to use a backup hard drive purchased from a different company, but I could never get the Mac to consistently recognize the filesystem on the drive from week to week. Also, that drive was large and cumbersome to use. A professional photographer acquaintance recommended the LaCie 160GB Rugged Hard Drive, which she uses to backup all of her photo shoots. The LaCie is small, so it fits right into the zippered pocket of the cover case I use to protect my lap top and travels easily with the lap top. When I am ready to do a backup, it simply connects by firewire to my lap top. The backup over firewire is fast. Set up on the Mac was easy following the instructions that come with the drive. Integration with the Mac Backup tool was seamless. I didn't try the LaCie One-Click software that comes with the drive.
