Rating: - Convenient backup drive
Nice small drive, used to backup & transport data, came with all necessary cables and though they are a bit short they worked just fine. I'm sick of drives having transformers - this unit uses bus power. I simply backup to it then bring just the drive home without having to carry unnecessary cables. Not the fastest thing out there but I don't edit video to it. Also makes a convenient external drive for backing up photos when shooting on location, just plug it up to my laptop with a firewire cable and download to it.
Rating: - Durable, no installation, tough, reliable!
I Love this Hard Drive. The orange protector is a definite plus. I have a MacBook and it just plugs right in without any mess. Very easy to use. Have had it for three months now, and just bought another one and I use that as a back-up with the Leopard version. LOVE IT!!!
Rating: - Works as advertised
I have had this drive for about one year. It works exactly as advertised, plug and play. No muss no fuss- plug in a SINGLE USB or FW cable (other reviews are wrong about multiple wires) and you have an extra 160 GB. I have dropped it and fallen off my bike with it in my messenger bag. I went to the doctor but it didn't. It is formatted for MAC. If you run windoz you will need to figure out how to reformat it. That should take about 10 min. There are probably faster drives around, BUT... it is easy to find in the dark and you won't drop it in the shower due to its slippery case! It is one of my most reliable least demanding electronic products. (One star off because nothing is perfect- aren't you happy you are not my student.)
Rating: - Good Rugged Drive but uses too many Ports
I needed a small portable drive, so I bought this one. It works good but this drive is not for me. I have two problems with it and neither problem is clearly spelled out in the description.
Its formated for the Mac --- I needed one that will work on both Mac & Windows. For a mac person this is complicated to make it work on Windows --- in addition to reformatting this drive, special software needs to be installed to make it work with windows.
It must use two ports in order to operate: a USB port to supply power and another port (USB, Firewire 400, Firewire 800) for data.
To make a long story short, I bought the 3 additional portable drives that I needed from WesternDigital --- their Passport drives are smaller, use only one USB port and work on both macs and windows right out of the box.
