Rating: - Another good idea that doesn't work
Wireless Extender Cell Phone Signal Booster Dual Band YX510 PCS/CEL. Followed instructions to antenna placement. Cell phone signal only got a small boost if placed almost on top of base unit. Enclosed broucher claims we could upgrade the booster and get a better signal for an additional $100+ After a $300 outlay for almost no improvement, I was not about to spend any more. Returned the item.
Rating: - It actually works
I just moved into a first floor condo in southern California. I realized that I was getting either no service or 1 bar of service for my iPhone (ATT). I was skeptical about this product (don't know why), but knew I had to try something. This product actually works. I seem to average between 2-3 bars of service, and people tell me I sound fine while talking to them. I also tried the indoor directional antenna upgrade, but wound up returning it, it didn't seem to improve the reception much at all. The installation wasn't too bad, but I did have to play with the location of the inside base unit a little to get the best coverage for all of the rooms.
Rating: - Proper Installation is everything.
Before purchasing this item I read several reviews about it. I found it interesting that people that purchased it either loved it or hated it. It either worked or it didn't. After going on line and reviewing the installation instructions I understood why so many people were not having success with the product. It's all about placement of the external antenna! This unit did not demonstrate an ability to amplify the signal allowing it to work in a location that our phones did not work by simply setting it up next to our phones. It did, however, very effectively allow us to relocate via cable the place the signal originated from. If you find a location that provides you with sufficient signal to use your phone, that's where the external antenna goes! Get it high outside a building. The internal antenna appears to work best line-of-sight inside a building.
Bottom Line, if installed properly it works very well! Hope this helps!

This signal booster seems to be working quite well. My husband put a tin ceiling in our home theater and we could not get any reception on our cell phones. With the signal booster we are able to talk on our cell phones in the room better.
