Rating: - On the question of laptop powering
I was concerned about the warning about USB powering not working on some laptops. But I have used the Passport now on a four-year old Dell, a six year old Toshiba with USB 1.2, and a new Toshiba U200 with USB 2, and it works on all of them.
Rating: - easy to use and stylish
This is a really easy to use external hard drive. I like the style. It's cool looking. I have had it for 4 months already works just fine with my vaio. :)
Rating: - Awesome product that comes with a lousy software!!!
This is an awesome product which comes with some pathetic software!! The drive itself is very compact, stylish and works with a USB port. No need to have a seperate power input as it gets powered thru USB from your PC / Laptop. It doesn't make any noice and it is kinda small for the storage it offers. One can just carry it in his / her pocket!! I love this product!!
Biggest downside of this product is the software that comes with it. Initially, the drive did not work with Windows Explorer. I thought this works only with the WD Sync software that comes with it and tried using it. Boy!! This is one piece of junk software. It was very slow, very confusing and it doesn't work!! I was so frustrated with it that I packed the whole stuff and placed a return of the order. My friend suggested formatting the disk and try Windows Explorer then. I did that and only then whole thing started working!! It's awesome now...I just dumped the software that comes with it.
Rating: - Great little backup drive
This drive makes backing up a laptop (or desktop) so very easy. I have used it for months with no problems. It's actually faster than the equivalent Iomega drive and comes with a nice neoprene carrying case (the Iomega has no case). I use it to backup a Macbook Pro and the USB does deliver enough power to run the drive without an adapter. Older laptops may require the adapter cable but don't blame this drive... blame the laptop.
