Rating: - More then I expected
I am very impressed with this e-reader! It has features similar to having a data plan on your phone... but this does not cost you $30 a month. Book selection is good (but not perfect... some classics like Watership Down are missing) and battery life is excellent. There is no comparison to Sony's e-reader, Kindle is definitely better. You can even check your email with it if you have a Google account. A great purchase!
Rating: - Great for Dyslexic Readers
I am a dyslexic adult who has learned to love reading. I'm an avid reader, but I know that my speed is slower than most of my peers. I got the Kindle as a birthday gift last week. What surprised me most was how much faster I could read because of the screen size. Because the size limits the number of words, it seemed much easier for me to read than a paperback or hardback. I was better able to track words and not make as many reversal or transposition errors. I really think that the Kindle would be an excellent tool to help young people who are dyslexic learn to track words in print better. It may also motivate a person with dyslexia to want to read as you can also control the text size as well. I don't make as many reversal errors in a larger font text. If you are a parent of a child with dyslexia, look to see how many books that there are in Kindle form for young readers. If there are a lot of them then consider trying this device. Don't give up hope. A teacher in high school told me I would never graduate, but I now teach at a university.
Rating: - No tech support
I received the Kindle for a birthday present last May. I LOVE it and used it non-stop for 4 months. Then the unthinkable happened. I left it on the floor and my dog stepped on the screen and ruined it. When I called to see if it could be repaired, I was told there is no repair facility and that I was just out of luck. I was told to keep the Kindle in hopes that someday there would be a repair facility. So now it sits unused, gathering dust and I'm frustrated. I don't understand how a product is sold knowing there is no way to repair items broken through carelessness and/or stupidity!
Rating: - Make Very Certain You Have Sprint Connectability In Your Area
I have had my Kindle just two days. I am very upset because it is pretty much useless to me because I have no signal to download wirelessly. I guess I should have checked a little further into it before I shelled out the high price of $350.00. From what I can see if you don't get good Sprint cell coverage in your area this system is useless to you. I have an AT&T and an AllTell cell tower within sight of my house but cannot get even one bar of connectibility. You can go online and minipulate the system for downloads but that kind of takes away from the whole purpose of wireless download.
