Rating: - DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT BUYING A PALM T|X
The PALM T|X is probably the most unstable and unreliable PALM PDA ever invented. I have own several PALM devices in the past including my favorite, the Kyocera 7135, which continues to give me superb solid support and performance since I bought it over five years ago. Unfortunately its analog phone feature is no longer supported, but otherwise it is a constant companion. I had hoped to replace it with the PALM T|X but alas after almost two months of trying (with no support or help from PALM I might add) I have not been able to achieve a stable and reliable, but more importantly, restorable PDA after dozens of HARD RESETs and repeated manual installations of all my files and applications (not including the few I was able to identify as incompatible, though evidence of incompatibility was neither predictable nor consistent). Even Backupbuddy was unable help achieve a level of stability and reliability that I have come to expect from PALM PDAs I had owned in the past.
Rating: - Utterly dissapointed
I bought the Palm TX as a replacement for my Sony Clie NZ90. I've owned at least 4 models before this, and i thought this one would be good.
The first thing that dissapointed me was that they replaced the comfortable Grafitti software with Grafitti 2.0, and you had no choice to go back to the previous version. Grafitti 2.0 is more complex that 1.0 because you have to write symbols as you would do with hand writing, which slows the process *a lot*. For example, you have to use one point and a line to write "i"; with the previous version you only had to draw a single line. Deleting with Grafitti 2 is a real pain in the behind, since the software confuses the "delete" keystroke with points and letters.
I haven't been able to write the number "4" quickly: it always confuses it with the number "2". You have to write BIG and SLOW if you want to finish your work. It's dumb. In the long term you learn to adapt to it, but it's a slow and painful process.
One month after i bought it, i noticed that parts of the screen didn't respond as before to the touch of the pen. You had to press harder at some points in order to write, which made the Grafitti writing process even harder.
I bought later one of these to my wife since her Palm M105 broke. She enjoyed the Palm TX... for a couple of months, because suddenly the screen decided to decalibrate in a non-fixable way. The Palm kept selecting one centimeter downwards, which made writing, using applications or selecting something in the screen absolutely impossible. Her Palm TX is now going to the tech service.
Not everything is bad in this Palm.
It has a nice amount of memory (128 Mb), and you can expand it with 1G SD cards.
It has a Wi-Fi feature that works flawlessly. You can surf the web with that.
It has Bluetooth, and it works fine connecting with cellphones.
However it doesn't have a camera, as my trusty Clie did, and it doesn't have a microphone, as my Sony Clie did. I miss those two features.
My impression is that it could have been a good product, but the two Palm TX in my house had problems. So i'd advice to try some other product instead of this one, unless that you love the Wi-fi / Bluetooth features. Besides that, it doesn't do what a Palm is supposed to do: make your life simpler.
So, get something else.
Rating: - Everything they said it would be
Palm TX arrived in record time- packed well - functions perfectly.
Great price, too! Thanks, Amazon!
Rating: - New, Used, Warranty from Palm?
Regarding the reseller: I was surprised when I received at T/X wrapped in bubble wrap instead of the original box. The vender did not say whether it was refurbished, returned, . .
During set up the T/X froze, then shut down. The resets did not work as they should have, so I will be returning it for a replacement. When on the phone with Palm tech support, I was told that Amazon nor their suppliers are not authorized Palm resellers, and that Palm would not be providing the usual 90 warranty as with new systems.
I will update this review when I have a working T/X.
Shipping from Palm is free, so buyers should consider what an opened T/X is worth, without a 90 day Palm warranty. Office Depot is looking better all the time. They will replace your Palm on the spot for the duration of the extended warranty period.
