Rating: - Excellent product! I was looking for something like this for YEARS!
Ever since DVD came out, and i realized how BULKY and SPACE Consuming my VHS tapes were, as well as it would take a LOT of fast forwarding to find the "part" that i wanted to see. Firstly I recommend getting Windows Movie Maker in addition to this product. Secondly
This product is the BEST computer software/hardawre product! you can LITERALLY upload VHS files to your computer and then put them to DVD if you want, or you can just save them as an AVI or an WMW. this product will make your closet, movie shelf, etc look SO MUCH smaller and cleaner, and you can transfer your IMPORTANT VHS files to your computer so you can throw out your old bulky vhs tapes.
With windows movie maker, you can edit, and only save the footage that you like. The important part about windows movie maker, is that the files you get from VHS, from this product is that it converts the AVI into a WMV, making it a MUCH smaller file, thus making more space on your computer. After you do that, then you can delete the huge avi file this product gives you.
Other people here on amazon.com stated they had to "alter" or "cut" off a part of the product or plug. I have used this product and I have NEVER EVER had to cut off or ALTER any plugs, outlets, or inlets or anything else. All I had to do was get a 3 part 2 way cord (white yellow and red going in the VCR, and another white, yellow red going in the products outlet through a USB port.
And if you have NERO, you can make a DVD out of the files you put on your computer. and you can put in ONLY THE FILES YOU WANT, you don't have to put all of it. and then you can fast forward to your favorite scene or episode or whatever.
if you are looking for a product that lets you convert VHS to computr file, then THIS is the product for you. frankkly, its the ONLY product if you want to convert VHS to DVD.
Easy to install. It only took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to convert the files but after the 10 mins, i got the hang of it and can do it with ease.
Con.. the ONLY CON in this product is that you can NOT retreive footage from DVD. you can ONLY retrieve it from VHS. but then again, the only DVD player i have is my playstation 2, so if you have a regular dvd player, maybe that would work.

I wasn't too disappointed at first. I had some problems with the video feed being choppy, but I think that may have been a processor problem. It comes with a DVD which contains additional content which you can access only after you register (send them your personal information). If you don't have a DVD drive, then you can order the content on CDs. When the URL for ordering the CDs turned out to be dead, I tried to contact customer support. Alas, you can't email them and can't call them on the phone. If your question isn't in their Q&A list, then don't expect and answer. This product is going back to the store.

Ok, so how are you supposed to enter a 10digit SN when the one that they provide for you has 11? Couldn't install the software so couldn't use the product at all. Multiple posts on the Pinnacle user forum on the company's website also went unanswered with this same problem. Bye Bye, back to the store. If you're not going to let me install your product and you're not going to help me to figure out how to get around the problem you've created then you clearly shouldn't be in business.
Rating: - Absolutely Painful
The unit itself is poorly built due to the fact that you must force the rca cables into it, that should've been the first clue. The software installed fine (Pinnacle version 8.0 initially). They capture quality is extremely choppy, this is especially true if you are filming any type of racing. The max resolution that it can capture and then give you a final product in is not even close to what you initially started with on either VCR or an analog camcorder. That being the case, what in the hell is the point of this product ?
With a combination of poor resolution and what appears to be dropped frames(although during capture, I had zero dropped frames it says) this product is one big disappointment.
